This is Jack Wu's blog at: http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/ This starts the article but the entire (short) is a must read: "Tuesday, October 9, 2007 Bob has a wife! Things down at City Hall haven't been the same since old Bob Burnham retired a few years back. Bob milked the system for a couple more years as a transition consultant...more or less double dipping." Bob Rush Give 'em hell Bob. He called their hand at council tonight! Calm down now Rosanzky if you have nothing to hide. You never did answer the question relative to a close friend devulging you took $ for a home and then gave it back as it was too hot? Come on and level with us Steve!! Fritz BTW - I head that Duda lives in Texas and is a real hard ball old timer land owner. I have respect for old school straight forward guys like that, but Newport is changing and if he's not here to be a part of it, I'm not sure i want my tax payer money just flowing off to Texas like that. We should be doing what's right for Newport Beach these days, circa 2007 with our city tax dollars, not what maximizes Duda's Texas cash flow. And that's politics! Vons Interesting. When is the lease up. Vons FACT: Fritz Duda informed Vons that he was not going to renew their lease. Fiction Yeah, I smell a rat in the kitchen. Anyway, you're right about homer and robin. Boy, I bet there are some deep dark secrets still hiding in all of this. Its all just too weird to be legitimate. Some of this stuff is pure fiction. Of course Ridgeway was adament in wanting City Hall where it is currently. Remember the property he purchased not too far away? Obviously Councilman Henn is the "mystery" guy. He is a past CFO for Vons. But, there is far too much "stuff" here that doesn't carry weight. Now then we have Burnham resigning so let's turn the heat up a notch on City Attorney & City Manager. They have been TOO CLOSE to Mr. Burnham!!! Hint He's one of our newest Council members. Von's Don't forget who gets 300k a year to manage the Von's Plaza. Vons Humm, the 2nd post below doesn't sound right to me. If i recall, Ridgway was a big supporter of a new city hall on the current site, not a relocation. I sense a little mis-information campaign on behalf of the vote no to relocate city hall campaign. Vons Now I get the connection with Vons, Duda, Ficker and the rest....BIG MONEY in waterfront Condos...is that why we have empty storefronts in Lido Village and the rest are MEETING HOUSES for REHAB? check it out for yourself, take a walk down there, but I doubt you'll be welcome..they tend to get testy when you ask too many questions; CAN YOU SAY "Carl Mosen"? interesting Huh? But who are we lowly residents to question our elected officials and developers; according to our Mayor, we're too stupid to Vote on the City Hall. VOTE NO, at least he'll figure it then. Vons Vons leases the property from Fritz Duda. Ridgeway, Duda, Ficker and others want the city hall moved so they can build high density condos. fos? What's this blog below all about? Why not just spell it out in everyday english instead of gobbly gook? fos Burnham filed conflict of interest forms with the city of Laguna Beach for limited work he performed there, so why did our city attorney excuse him from state law in filing them in Newport? Maybe because she knew Burnham had contracted with Gary Hunt for over $1 Million in non city council approval contracts -the Gary Hunt who ordered the Marines out by 2000 in 1985 and was VP of Irvine Company. Follow the money. Peggy Ducey apparently worked on the NB city payroll -someone blogged today -please come forward and tell your tale Peggy. More about Burnham Did anyone read this article in the Daily Pilot 2 days ago on Burnham's resignation? Very interesting there were 6 blogs relating to the subject and all but one were derogatory towards Burnham. Guess what happened? They've disappeared!! Here's the article: http://www.dailypilot.com/articles/2007/10/07/politics/dpt-burnham06.txt Rehab Homes You're right this site http://www.publicvoice.us/ should be must reading for every citizen in Newport Beach. The only way to view what is really going on. Most of these have been established on Burnham's watch. His lack of disclosure is appalling. Now, on to Homer and Robin. Will the city council have the guts now to review the actions of our City Manager and City Attorney? Again, we are indebted to Bob Rush and his terrific work on our behalf. Burhman What's going on? Burnham I checked out that blog at http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/ GREAT STUFF. A question that really needs to be answered, and if you haven't heard the AWG (John Wayne Airport Group) is going to RALLY to Bob's side...start a petition to get him hired back... I say let 'em have him...they'll learn soon enough that a conflict of interest form would benefit them too. Filing those forms will benefit any group working in the City, it's one way to have a TRANSPARENT GOVERNMENT..thats why they FILE THEM!!! check out Publicvoice.us and see what OVER-CONCENTRATION has done to this City Bob Burnham Well, it makes things much clearer now. Bob, you resigning like this certainly gives the appearance that you did have a conflict with your duties ... and, an illeagle one at that. Forget your work on the airport (which gets more and more traffic) now as the "homes" speak volumns about you and conflict of interest! Bludaus quotes about Burnham are rediculous at best! http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/ Our current City Attorney, Robin Clauson, had Bob Burnham as a mentor. I think the council should take a hard look at her as well as Homer Bludau. This is merely the tip of the iceberg!! End of Story ... Well, not quite is it? Bob Burnham RESIGNS!!!! Homer Bludau & Robin what say you???? Where there's smoke there's fire and we all thank you Bob Rush!! What a job you did in front of the City Council. The current council MUST be wondering what is going on with the cards crumbling the way they are. Now, let's get the city hall where it belongs and that is next to the library in a place they try to label a "park". What a joke! Police/Fire Unions Never understood what Curry was getting at with his motion until it was all over. This subject REALLY does show how subservient the Council is to these Unions who pay at the council trough to keep them in office. Sickening isn't it. Is it true our retirement pensions are COMPLETELY unfunded. That is what I heard and I can't believe it if true! Bob Rush Anyone know his background? I think he is one gutsy guy standing up there in front of council and giving them 30 days or he files a lawsuit. Of course that just gives Robin (yes mouthpiece) an opportunity to contract with yet ANOTHER attorney with our taxpayers money. Anyway, I'm impressed with this fellow Bob Rush for certain. City Hall Interesting comment on Henn and the Vons site, I'd like to hear more about that. Nice to see someone respond to the Burnham issue, thought everyone was afraid to breath his name for fear of a lawsuit from him, wonder if he's going to produce those conflict of interest forms that Bob Rush asked for; should be some interesting reading. I wonder what else he's been up to other than changing City Ordinances to promote drug rehab in Newport; Bludau says he works on the JOHN WAYNE issue only, I wonder what nightmare is in store for the City when he gets done. I don't get it Where is this so called showdown with developers? Strikes me it is more the "tree huggers" with their so called park next to the library. Then again you have Henn with his past connection (employment) with Vons/Pavillions and their property. Whatever is going to happen to splitting up the current City Hall and Vons property on the peninsula? Politics make strange bedfellows for sure! City Hall What is Newport Beach without its developers? Half the city is on tideland, the other half managed by the Irvine company. With residents home prices starting at $1M and going up to 20+, its all about money and real estate development. Should be an interesting show down. CITY HALL BETTER TO HAVE CITY HALL ON A REDICULOUS SO CALLED PARK SITE NEXT TO THE LIBRARY THAN AT IT'S PRESENT LOCATION. LET THE DEVELOPMENT BEGIN AS IT CAN'T GET WORSE THAN IT ALREADY IS!!!! City hall Fritz Duda and Bill Ficker. Watch what happens to the current city hall site after the idiot voters vote to move city hall. This is about money and development, anyone who thinks it isn't, is an idiot. Jack Wu Folly ! ! ! He likes the park as is in CDM thank you. Jack, go get a blog! city hall I see the initative has qualified to be on the ballot. Hooray!! Once on there let's all get out the vote End of Story Yep, really never left but thought some of the remarks were .... well, somewhat not on the mark. Whatever that means! There are so MANY items on the City plate it is tough to stay focused but many thanks for the acknowledgement! End of Story Hey, good to see old End of Story back. The board has been quiet. Curry He was one lone puppy up there at Tuesday's council meeting when it came time to vote. I'm a Republican too but let's keep The Lincoln Club out of running our City. It was VERY disgusting to see and hear their representative. How embarrasing can it be?!! More on Burnham.. Did you all see the Corona del Mar guy level it last night at Burnham (in particular!), Homer, the City Council collectively and INDIVIDUALLY! If he does not obtain a satisfactory explanation why Burnham is not completing a conflict form within 30 days he files suit!! The council just sat there expressionless. Man, if it quacks like a duck, sounds like a duck then it has to be a duck. Sorry sorry looking council last night all the way around. The head of the Lincoln Club was pathetic! What a sad appearance for the head of any orgaization. Almost made me want to change my registration to democrat. End of story! Burnham Burnham is being investigated right now by the proper authorities. Its common knowledge that Dennis Oneal and Buzz Person are affiliated and represent local operators. Burnham Interesting tax returns. Thanks for posting it. What is the Burnhmam tie in, if any. Past allegations are that he pushed through zoning changes while NB attorney that allow more homes in NB into newport, while his wife was paid by those homes as a consultant. I have also hear another past mayor of NB is also paid by the Homes as a consultant. Are there any hard facts behind any of this? MORE CRIMINALS PAST ADP DIRECTOR PROMOTED TO DEPT. OF CORRECTIONS READ the 2007 Press Release as Governor Arnold appointed a NEW Director for ADP, while the past ADP director has gone on to the Calif. Dept. of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Hmmmm, from ADP (licensing addiction treatment homes) to Dept of Corrections? YES, do YOU understand this connection? From the press release dated 2/20/07: "The California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs (ADP) will work closely with the newly re-organized Division of Addiction and Recovery Services within Calif. Dept. of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) to create a stronger substance abuse treatment network for in-prison and community-based treatment programs to help reduce recidivism rates among the parole population." ADP is a $600 million public state agency with the purpose of treating addicts in the CA. Court System? YES- now you've got it! CRIMINALS NEW!!!!! REHAB ADDICTS STAB NEIGHBORS & COURT EXCUSES REHAB NEGLIGENCE! If a rehab fails to lock down knives, fails to provide required 24 hour staff supervision, fails to fix their broken alarm system which would keep addicts IN the rehab at night & even fails to call police when 4 addicts escape-- the rehab is NOT responsible for the stabbing of two people!! Rehabs do NOT owe a duty to their neighbors to exercise reasonable care to control the wrongful conduct of their addicts (residents) EVEN IF THEY ARE 'CRIMINAL JUSTICE CLIENTS or inmates from the Dept. of Corrections. Rehabs do NOT owe a duty to the public. rehabs Do you really want to know embarssment? attend the next City Council Meeting and watch your City Officials at work dealing with the current drug rehab crisis that they create for our residents by selling out the city to these profiteers. Could they be involved???? Makes a person wonder. Mayor Rosansky, what are you doing about our current 117 homes in a 1.5 mile area? Since the great moratorium our City Attorney put into affect the 6 and under group homes are going in faster than you can flip pancakes at a Boy Scout Breakfast, watch out CDM and Lido we have found them in your backyards as well. Just wait until they spit on your property, yell the F word everytime they go by on there bikes, ring their bike bells throughout the night as they pass by, toss their cigs and trash in your yards.and at your guests. Better give up the good ole boy rules and take care of business or your neighborhoods will be like West Newport within the year...Oh by the way Congrats to Carolyn and Gene Ross on the 250,000 a year they rake in for renting out 1810 W. Oceanfront to Narconon. Hope you put one in on Lido and in CDM so you can spread your good fortune to all of the local neighborhoods. Good Luck residents of Lido and CDM. Hope you can get a handle on this before you too are the minority................Your Friends in West Newport TAX FILINGS [From Part 7 of 990 filings] Raw statement - corrected 2005 PDF <http://www.xenu-directory.net/documents/corporate/2005-990-narconon-newportbeach.pdf#page=8> 2004 PDF <http://www.xenu-directory.net/documents/corporate/2004-990-narconon-newportbeach.pdf#page=6> 2003 PDF <http://www.xenu-directory.net/documents/corporate/2003-990-narconon-newportbeach.pdf#page=6> 2002 PDF <http://www.xenu-directory.net/documents/corporate/2002-990-narconon-newportbeach.pdf#page=6> 2001 PDF <http://www.xenu-directory.net/documents/corporate/2001-990-narconon-newportbeach.pdf#page=6> 2000 PDF <http://www.xenu-directory.net/documents/corporate/2000-990-narconon-newportbeach.pdf#page=6> Comments Drug rehabilitation 9,439,180$ 6,272,662$ 4,936,192$ 3,615,941$ 2,286,902$ 799,080 REHAB CONGRATULATIONS TO NEWPORT BEACH CITY OFFICIALS FOR THEIR SUPPORT OF THE LARGEST REHAB IN NEWPORT! NINE MILLION DOLLARS STRONG!!! Narconon Rehab at 1810 W. Oceanfront, Newport Beach- increased their residentially-based business TEN TIMES from the year 2000 to 2005. WOW, guess Narconon really LOVES Newport officials-- since neighbors, residents and others have been complaining for years and Newport officials continued to support and double Narconon's occupancy!!! See their income below AND notice how their landlords (Carolyn and Gene Ross of Lido Island) earned a cool quarter million per year to rent the property to Narconon (and that was in 2002, imagine what that is now in 2007? SOooooo, how much do you make Carolyn and Gene??).. GREAT MONEY!!!!! CONGRATS to Carolyn and Gene Ross, and ALL NEWPORT OFFICIALS for continuing the raping of the Balboa Peninsula with a $10 million dollar business in ONE RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY LOT!! DRUG REHAB Does anyone realize that there are over 117 DRUG REHAB facilities on the Peninsula?? Get Angry Get involved go to PUBLICVOIVE.US, Who really is profiting from drug rehab in Newport? did your old AND new City Attorney set us up to be the Drug Rehab CAPITOL of the entire United States? an FPPC investigation is going on to find that out. GO TO YOUR CITY COUNCIL and PLANNING COMMISSION meetings in the next month or two and find out those answers. DRUG REHAB BUSINESS CLIENTS, are now 40% to 50% of the population of the Peninsula THANK YOU Carolyn and Gene Ross of Lido Isle! winships i generally don't agree with that blog but i do agree with their last comment about the mayor. we have an appointed mayor, not elected. and we have a majority of council members appointed, not elected. the deck is stacked against the voters. as much as i love this city, our city government is an embarrassment. Jack Wu and the Winships go over the hill lately on their blog! http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/ More on Wu Thanks very much! That clears up a lot of things. He has appeared to be an opportunist and that explains why. Wonder what makes the Winships tick? They have to be the odd couple for sure! Again.....thanks! Wu Who cares where Wu stands on the subject. He is a democrat from Irvine turned republican, who then ran and lost for newport city council. He is a career politician who can't even get elected. He doesn't represent newport voters. He will take a stand for whatever might possibly get him elected and for whatever city might have an opening. What's next, Libritarian for Costa Mesa City Council? Winships? We don't quite understand. What is the relationship between them and Wu? It's obvious they do not care for the "City Hall in the Park" from their comments. Where does Mr. Wu stand on the topic? Jack Wu Jack didn't write it. Ron & Anna Winship did. I don't think the Winships would let Jack use their name. http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/ Jack Wu Jack, you left one person off this quote: "We wouldn't have to rely on Jim Righeimer, Matt Cunningham or Bill Ficker for leadership!" That person is you. Your colors really show through this latest piece. No wonder your reputation preceds you even in the last election you lost!!! You are a work in progress and it isn't pleasant work. Hope you feel better creating your own blog to spew out the latest venom. Harbor Patrol Do you think the Rupert incident had anything to do with this? Harbor Patrol City (under the radar) denies it but are attempting to wrest control of Harbor Patrol from the County. Like our city needs more drain on the treasury or even has the ability to cover the Harbor and outside Harbor. Harbor Patrol So, whats this all about then? DON'T FORGET!!! CITY HALL IN THE PARK! THE PERFECT VENUE FOR THIS NEW ADDITION! Also, who had the gall install 2 more trailers in from of the existing City Hall? Does that come under Homer's $50,000 blank check he gets from the council? They are uglier than the first one. But, if Mr. Henn is to have his way I guess we need more payroll (UGH!) to enforce our codes. Don't you dare wash off the spent jet fuel that accumulates daily on our decks. It's against the code. But, you can "sweep" it off. Yea, right!!! Harbor Patrol Talk to ANY of these County Sheriff guys for the FACTS concerning their job. Once you've done this you'll see it is a folly for Homer or ANY city official to carry this charade any further. End of story..... Harbor Patrol I believe CNB offers much better benefits and pension than the county so the harbor patrolmen want to work for CNB, not county. No politics involved, just money. We offer such generous package here in our nice rich city. Nope! Not when it's true. SO much graft Tod is still crying... More Parks How bout we demolish everything on the peninsula, except the Fun Zone and redevelop it with a really big park. Do you every get tired of the years of bitchin about the corruption of the city council? Harbor Patrol Would love to be a fly on the wall in the halls of city hall. You just KNOW city officials are deliberating about the police department and county harbor patrol. This in spite of what public officials utter publicly. Mayor Rosansky "we don't know nothing"! Yeh, right!!! Hey Mayor, I've got a bridge to sell you!. gore i heard gore used to give it to hillary as part of his vp duties just to keep her busy. could you imagine those two having sex... oh right wing conspiracy, oh lock box! whoa baby. Hookers Well that helps explain why they brought in that las vegas strip club guy on the marina park deal/fiasco. Hey, do you think Al Gore's son's pot smoking is contributing to global warming? Having your son get a DUI while driving a prius 100 MPH and having pot found in your car must be embarrassing after that chad episode and all that globally responsible high grounding. Ok, i admit am a Newport redneck conservative. But frankly I am partial to the English language. Not only developers But Homer our "prominent" city manager!! hookers hookers hang around other hookers, and that's all our city council is- a bunch of whores who do anything the pimp tells them. in newport pimp is another word for developer. Hookers Don't the hookers hang out at The View, on the top of the Marriot in Fahsion Island? Hookers I hear the biggest opposition is having all those hookers at city hall so close to the library. Petitions? Where can I find one to sign? There isn't anyone at Pavillions on the peninsula. City Hall The only pro i can see to keeing it where it is would be nostalgia. Otherwise, the penn is a terrible place. It is not central to the city these days. traffic problems, small parcel, a few feet above sea level and subject to tsunami. Moving it to the Hill makes sense. Lots of pros for that move. It would serve the community well to move it. Now is the time. I will sign a petition if I can find one. City Hall "Just a summary"? Wish it was that easy other than to say City Hall in the Park is ideal. The "park people" hang their hat on a "promise" over 9 years ago. What that has to do with 2007 economics is beyond the majority of us. So, sign a petition and we'll have the pulse of the community. City Hall I'm serious. What are the pros and cons to the two sites. No game. Just looking for a summary. City Hall Sounds like this person knows more than he lets on. Obviously all he has to do is his homework and figure it out himself. Lookout it sounds like a setup ...... City Hall Remind me again why we prefer the park site over current city hall? City Hall Ficker's group has petitions out to get City Hall in the Park on the ballot. Sign one at your nearest NB market. City Hall So, what's the latest politics on City Hall? Is it moving, is it staying? How much will it cost...$200M? What's the scoop? Thanks. Jack Wu Folly ! ! ! Again!! "The Daily Plot .... as usual!" Hey, Jack get a life! You make it sound like the "Citizens" don't support the Ficker City Hall in the park. Well, Jack, thanks to Mr. Ficker we will soon find out who the "Citizens" are after we vote ... won't we? Some of us aren't big boosters of the Pilot but your descriptions are beyond the edge. Obviously you aren't running for office in OUR good city for a long time Jack!! sirens You can THANK Councilmember Henn for the Sirens that are to be installed on the Penninsula- Henn. Jack Wu Someone should have told him to use his money to remodel his kitchen instead of running for City Council. Jack Wu Wouldn't it be nice if he returned to Irvine and not mess up our city here more than it is already? DON'T FORGET!!! NARCON AND SCIENTOLOGY LET'S FIGHT IT (THEM). "TOGETHER we can stop this hijacking of the Beach/Point at 18th St. Donate money to the cause: "PROTECT THE POINT c/o Linda Orozco", CSUF, EC Bldg, Room 190, P.O. Councilman Henn's District here on the peninsula can thank Councilman ....... no not Henn ...... Curry for his recent newsletter!!! The new budget has $$ for sirens on the peninsula. Hooray!!! Hip hip Hooray!!! Finally!! Now, let's get them bid out and INSTALLED ASAP!! Better late than never. THANKS ! ! ! To all of you who wrote, faxed, emailed or telephoned your Senators on the immigration votes. We won but there was Feinstein & Boxer our liberal "representatives" voting against us .... again!. Now, Mr. President, let us get back to the bill from last fall and secure our borders once and for all! NARCONON EXPOSED EVERYTHING YOU WANT/NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS OPERATION AND SCIENTOLOGY. GO HERE: http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/Narconon/ Narconon We should take steps like the country of Germany did with Tom Cruise. He cannot make his latest movie on the German bases due to his membership in Scientology. Narconon is owned by Scientology and should be banned from Newport Beach. This blog below is excellent and all should follow it!!! Illegal expansion of Narconon AN OCEANFRONT BUSINESS WITH 49 PERSONS AND ONLY 3 PARKING SPACES? THIS IS AN ILLEGAL ACTION BY THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH. It is an illegal 'intensification of use'. It violates City Zoning Code (20.62.050-A) AND Calif. Coastal Commission requirements for permits and approval. This $4 million dollar a year business operates from this residential triplex without any Conditional Use Permit or review by the City Planning Commission. Any 'intensification of use' requires City Planning Commission approval. In addition, it requires a Calif. Coastal Commission review because it is an 'intensification of use' and directly/negatively impacts beach access and parking for the public. Forty-nine persons (22 staff) and only 3 parking spaces? Imagine! [AND the property owners won approval for a condo conversion years ago which doesn't permit anyone occupying the basement, but this 'new' expansion DOES. What happen to the condo conversion requirements?] SO why did the city staff approve this expansion? Money? Narconon's contributions to city political campaigns? You be the judge. TOGETHER we can stop this hijacking of the Beach/Point at 18th St. Donate money to the cause: "PROTECT THE POINT c/o Linda Orozco", CSUF, EC Bldg, Room 190, P.O. Look at their stance on following Bush on his immigration mess. State Republican Party Typical of the leadership of our party as well as the County level. Also, the National GOP is so corrupt you'd think it was the PRI in Mexico. Jack, you love to rub elbows with those types don't you?! http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/ They have plenty of Trailers Why don't they go down to Marina Park & See if there are any empty trailers there? Maybe they could rent something down thereand save some money..... More on trailers..... They are empty? You just wait until Homer and HR hires bodies to fill them. See? Homer is smarter than you think. Now, a place for new add on (that spells TAX INCREASE) employees. Oh for the days of the "public servant"! Who would have EVER thought Newport Beach and trailer trash right in our front yard. You go for it Homer it really took smarts to "enhance" our current grounds. Now, EVERYONE will want a new city hall no matter where!! Velly cleva guy Hom! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sick!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, back to Main Street and the removal of the ficus, oh no don't want to go there as Main Street is SO much prettier. Yeh, right!!! Trailer Hall Evidently you haven't heard the latest about Trailers. On the agenda for this Tuesday is the request to move a trailer from the General Services dept, move it to City Hall, refurbish it for 43K, and let HR use it for interviewing. Preety soon we won't need a new City Hall- just when dumb couldn't get any dumber. And go by those trailers during the day- there is nobody in them New City Hall???? Tell me do the new trailers which have obliterated our City Hall front lawn fall under Homer Bludeau's discretionary $50,000 authority? I hadn't heard a peep at the Council meetings. First a trailer to house the police to fine the citizenry for watering in the neighborhoods (which by the way has turned out to be a joke!) and now 2 more out to the sidewalk. Homer, I didn't read about this in your silly newsletter. Let's put Jack Wu on it and call it Wu's folly!!!! If we're lucky it'll be in his blog one of these days. After all Jack you are suppose to be on top of this stuff! Jack Wu Folly ! ! ! Thank god you didn't get in Jack. Your reference to a "Folly" fits you to a tee with your remarks!! Belittle those of us who feel (rightly so!!!) the city hall should go where the petitions are directing us. We could care less 'cause the ballot box will tell the tale!! End of story!!! Dumb The one who writes about it here! Dumb Who is the dumb one? The one who writes it or the one who keeps reading it. Newsletters Agreed. Newsletters are worthless. They are weak spin jobs by homer, et. al. and an example of how hollow city management is. A little effort focused on the issues, the truth, your fiduciary duties to tax payers and the electorate you work for would go a long way right now. The Blame Game Or, Jack, we could blame the Newport Voices for such a dumb blog. City Hall will live on at the Avacado/McCarthur/Library site which is ideal. Cityhall in the park is the ONLY way to go. Enough of Ridgeway as he's history!!! City Council Newsletters They are about as boring as Homer (City Manager) monthly repeated stuff. Why do we pay him to send this diatribe. He's paid to DO THINGS other than a newletter!!!! Air Ads What about the flying air ads? call and complain! John Wayne Airport Noise Office: (949) 252-5185 Lowering our property values? We could someday find our neighborhoods on an EPA superfund cleanup list due to jet pollution. Check out these websites: http://www.weitzlux.com/environmentallawsuit/arizona/tucsoninternationala_145415.html or http://jetairpollution.com/ JWA Pollution - my advice Collect the residue from your property for a week. Take the residue to the lab. Have it tested for jet fuel particulates. Once confirmed, send a certified letter to JWA requesting that they pay to clean your deck once a week. If they deny your request, contact an environmental class action lawsuit attorney. On second thought, maybe you could just start by calling one. I'm sure that they would be happy to assist you with the process! Good luck! Air Ads I was hiking at Crystal Cove this weekend. Couldnt even go on a hike without seeing the giant flying ads. And when I got home to Balboa Peninsula I had to watch them in my front yard again. Anyone know where/who we can file complaints with? John Wayne Maybe I'll file a lawsuit against the airport for their allowing the pollution to my property and the air that I breath!!! City says I can't even wash down my deck as the run off goes into the bay. What about the aircraft pollution???? Air Ads Yep! Yesterday (Saturday) two at a time and noisy as hell is right. John Wayne is really getting obnoxious with not only the frequency of the jets buy the crap they are spewing out over our houses and the air we breath. Would love to see it closed down but will never happen. Air Ads - noisy as hell! Is it me, or do these air ad companies intentionally go out of their way to deploy the noisiest planes that they can find? I have a theory that they intentionally make these planes louder so that we will look up at them. I'd be willing to gamble that they violate our noise ordinances. If not, maybe our friends at city hall could look into tightening them up a little for us trying to relax on the beach! Donkey Wu What a piece of work!!! Forget the blog Jack!! P O P Heard Tom McClintock the keynote speaker this morning. What an outstanding principled public servant this guy is. Too bad the Terminator got in instead of Tom!! Noise from John Wayne What about the "filth" one has to continually wash down dumped by the expended jet fuel? Why is this never addressed? Petitions? City Hall in the Park! Contact Anahita Nemert at 1-714-474-3188 I think she'll be able to help. Air ads Yes I'm sick of them too. It is just another form of pollution. How can we stop it? Flying Ads That's the perils of ocean front living. Try John Wayne flights directly over your home all day long! Air-borne bill boards Anyone else sick of seeing giant airborne advertisements flying over the beaches all day long? I cant even sit in my front yard without being advertised to!! Is anyone out there trying to do anything about this? Winships It looks like the Winships signed that post you are talking about. Which one are you talking about? Petitions Where can i get a petition? Legion Marina Park? "The legion does not want to give up one in of the property for the Marinapark." What does this mean? Doesn't make any sense! Legion Marina Park The legion does not want to give up one in of the property for the Marinapark. Mr. Jack Wu Me thinks you've gotten out of space or something. What is with bashing the mayor on the concession at Big Corona for one thing. Ask staff (read that Asst. Mgr. Kiff) what happened to the deliberations of our long standing concession there (forgot his name) who lives in the Ports. Staff OBVIOUSLY gave him the run around when he came up. I'm not sure I'd trust this "Rudy" guy anyway. Kiff looked VERY uncomfortable. As for the 3 voting for the park, thank god we have the mayor standing up and being counted. I hate to do it but here's some more advertising for your blog: http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/ Read Wu's comments here folks and then remember he wanted to represent US on the peninsula. What a joke!!! End of story! Petitions are out there They came out today to place a city hall at the park. Now, let's get the job done!!! Great!!! Park is delayed again!! Let's sign the petitions get it on the ballot and really show this city the citizens run the city!!! city Hall Going to be interesting to see how council votes tonight. Heff did another commendable job at the dias. Ridgeway as mayor Between him and Bromberg it seems forever! Ridgeway's Deed Deed reflects it was signed in May, 2004. When was he Mayor????? Conflict of Interests If Debra Allen was deemed not able by City Attorney Clauson she had a conflict to vote on the Park 500 ft from her home then why did Don Webb vote Jan 11 2005 on the Mariner's Library? He lives within 500 ft of Mariner's Park & Library, too. When did Ridgeway move out of his district he signed the ordinance to infiltrate wtih drug rehabs and into the mansion on Kings Road? city Hall Bromberg/Ridgeway didn't so much want the city hall rebuilt on it's present site as they wanted their friend Roger Torreriero of Griffin Assoc. to have the $1 M contract to initiate the city hall project, which came without plans to build a city hall. It was wasted money our city paid to their associate for absolutely nothing in return. Another sham. Homer, City Manager I think the city council should take a hard look at his record within this city. He is SO over paid for what his actions have been against the citizenry. Received his letter (is it monthly?) today. Big deal about a city of trees and yet he was VERY involved with Tod to tear out the ones on Main Street. Tomorrow there is a closed meeting to contemplate what to do about the threatened million dollar lawsuit against the city by Ware disposal. And, let's not overlook all of these Scientology group homes here on the peninsula. If one doesn't think he and Burnham were on the "in" then I've got a bridge to see you. Fire him? You bet!!! He's fed off our trough long enough. City Hall I find it so interesting how under Ridgeway/Bromberg leadership the city's strategy was to quietly jam it through on the current site with virtually zero community involvement. It wasnt' until after such a tremendous uproar that now we see proper community input. Homer has spent so much tax payer money first trying to do things w/out involvment, then getting caught, and now having to redo it all. First the marina park fiasco, now the city hall fiasco. Can somebody please fire him? I hardly think he's doing any of us a service. Rush Hill The City Hall Site Review Committee is composed of the following citizen volunteer members: Larry Tucker (Chair); Steve Brahs; John Hamilton; Lloyd Ikerd; Don Krotee; Wallace Olson;Gordon Glass; Rush Hill; Tod Ridgeway Tod's address is 1821 Kings Road Newport Beach CA 92663 He owns this property under the pseudonyme "Cliffview Investments LLC". He bought it 5/26/2004 from Rush and Linda Hill. However, he's temporarily living at 311 Kings Place. Ron & Anna Winship said... They don't like the thought of City Hall going near the Library site. Well, I'll betcha they live over there near the other resident, Mrs. Conflict of Interest, who feels the same way. It is pretty tough to try to argue something like that which doesn't make sense. Hooray for the efforts of those filing the petitions!!!! Everyone sign now ya hear?? Sorry to tell you this but ... Ridgeway is still VERY much in Newport Beach. Last thing he told me was his house hadn't sold. But, the moving van came and off the Ridgeways went to their new home up on Kings Road. So, stay tuned to see if he runs for council from THAT district. After screwing up the peninsula for so long (yes, and the 3rd phase of downtown is still NOT completed!). Note the overhead wiring still up from Main past Washington, Palm and Adams. Employees had admitted they don't know what to do next it is SO screwed up. In any event "some" things are still rumbling between City and American Legion which is not kosher as regards the Marina Park. Yes Tod we don't miss you at all down here. You've left the water and your "toy boat" to be a land owner once more. Stay tuned....... Ridgeway is gone Talking about Tod, does anyone know where he went. Story is that he sold his house and is gone, but nobody knows where he went or Y? Any news??? What?? Where does all this "Ridgeway Stuff" come from all of a sudden. That weasel is history. Get it? End of Story thank God!!! Freenewport Update OK, freenewport, it is time to get rid of the recall ridgeway stuff. Work? Ya Got Me There. What was I thinking? "Works?" Who said anything about work? They can have Sunday parties with their "contributors" and tailgate the afternoon! Monday night the ones that punch time cards can punch the card after Monday nights game and get paid (overtime) for watching. I blew it when I didn't become a "civil servent". One doesn't hear that term much any longer do they? You Are Wrong! Football? What County Employee do you know works on Sunday or even past 4:30 pm on weekdays? County Supervisors Yep! $1,100,000 is a lot of money. Too much in fact under the circumstances. I wish I had the large plasma TV they bought with our tax dollars. I'll bet a lot of Sunday NFL games will be seen on it not to mention Monday night football. John, did you also buy the NFL package??? Signed: A VERY CONCERNED PAYER OF TAXES!! Weird It is weird to equate the ferry ride cost with either a cup of Starbucks or the Toll Road. Just don't get it.... Balboa Ferry Cost $1.00 per person. $2.00 per car w/driver. This morning (Sunday) the line was never long. Maybe, just maybe Beeks shouldn't have kicked it up so dramatically at the git go.... Balboa ferry How much is in now? Last time I rode it I thought i paid about $1.20 for car and driver. Which is less than a $2 cup of coffee at Starbucks and less than a $3.80 ride on the toll road. Balboa Ferry Cost I think it horrible to increase the fares the way they have. I'm sure there was a posted sign for a period of time and one of the operators said they had notices in the papers. For one who lives here never did see either of the notices. Isn't the ferry operation somehow controlled or licensed by the City? Did the city have to give an ok to this rate increase? If so, when and how was it done? For a cash business it has to render a nice profit to the Beeks. I wonder how "gross" income is disclosed to the IRS? Nice business to "skim" from the daily take either late at night or early in the a.m. All about "net", eh? Yea......right!!! Blogging You're right there is something to be said about the old days. Jack just tries too hard to be a politician. Blogging Every 2 bit politician or media type is now starting his/her own political blogging site, now that "Web 2.0" is fashionable. What I love about FreeNewport is its true grass roots origin. Back when blogging was for real and Jack was a democrate running for Irvine City Council. A BUBBLING CAULDRON Good going Jack you add Geoff to your site so the liberals will have a field day. That's exactily what this guy West is. Back to your democratic ways in Irvine. You are SO political it is sickening!!! You toss a crumb here and there and then expect to take on a conservative mantle. No way Jose...... CYA It's called CYA. The city is fearful a lawsuit will be filed by resident(s) who were actually harmed by the drug rehab proliferation and want to cut short the time they spend putting an ordinance in place. Freedom The MAYOR of NB, Rosansky would not ask the city attorney to answer Mr. RUSH's question WHY she advises to cut the moratorium on drug rehabs short by five months. YET when city council person Gardiner asked a question of a speaker it was o.k. What's wrong with city government? We call this a democracy? Ducks suck.... Go Ducks! Stanely Cup!!! P O P Their upcoming breakfast featuring Tom McClintock should be a winner. Great choice for a speaker! POP Goes the Zippi Part II http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/05/pop-goes-zippi-part-ii.html Ware Disposal Buying "access" to the council? How about telling it like it is/was. Buying off those council persons! Pure and simple and our illustrious City Manage should have known better at his salary! End of story! Jack Wu Does this mean you think Jack is similar to Edwards and his philosphy? Scare Churchill was rumored to have said......"a man in his 20s who is not a liberal has no heart. and a man in his 30s who is not a conservative has no brain". maybe that explains our friend jack???? This should scare the hell out of you. Typical of this party's thinking today. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8PA5VM80&show_article=1 You haven't been listening to Obama. He is about as Liberal as they get! Even more so than Clinton!! Of course she blows with the wind so what can one say. Not that this administration is outstanding but democrats getting in scare the hell out of me when it comes to fighting terrorism. Philosophically they are really wimps at heart. The current ones that is who follow Soros and they are all following today. Not the JFK type of democrat at all. Jack I think its funny how Jack was first a democrate, and now a republican, and at first ran for Irvine city council, and then ran for Newport city council. Talk about an opportunist!!!! Jack, stand up for something you beleive it. You'll feel better about yourself and might even win an election. Obama well he's less liberal than Clinton and the republicans don't stand a chance thanks to Iraq. So, take your choice. Obama or Clinton. whoever wins the democratic ticket is our next president. Senator Barack Obama He has that "feel good" smile but is about as Liberal as they come these days!! A "little liberal"? You got to be kidding!!! Title to recent Blog... "To Those a Bit More Liberal..." Give me a break Jack! Just an ittty bit more or how about EXTREME LIBERAL would be a better definition. Also note the cost for all of us poor blue coller working stiffs out here. $2,300 per plate? I'm glad the Democrats represent the poor. How many thousands did Edwards get for that speech in OC? Not that the Republicans (read Bush) aren't hypocritical but this is remarkable. Oh well, Jack guess you just can't rid yourself of that Democrat label you wore in Irvine. Huh?? What does this mean? " "circle jerk" as I have heard elsewhere". Don't get it! Homer, et. al Well, council at that time was Tod, who owned property by city hall and supported the local development being sponsored by Homer, etc. And Bromberg, who had his eyes on the judge seat (remember that security company that bribed a bunch of sherriffs...and Bromber was their attorney???) Plus a bunch of appointees. Together they managed to pass on higher salaries and pensions for Homer, relaxed rehab zoning for the Burhman's friends, the Marina Park fiasco and the City Hall agenda. "Quid pro quo" as some would say, "circle jerk" as I have heard elsewhere. Homer & Burnham We know who is responsible. But, like someone in a blog below said where is the city council? We care less about embarrasment this is what Homer's high salary is all about ..... isn't it? Rehab... because the loop hole was created under Homer's watch and it was create by Robin's boss. Burnham modified the zoning laws and that started this mess. It must be very embarrasing for them now to have to come in and try to change something that they were actually a part of. You know we're in trouble when there is this comment regarding the immigration debate going on currently in the Senate. "Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., an architect of the bipartisan plan, called it "strong, realistic and fair." God help us!!!! Monday morning and the bill still isn't printed! Rehab anyone? It just gets more confusing every day!!! Why can't our City Attorney and City Manager get a handle on this problem?? http://www.dailypilot.com/articles/2007/05/21/politics/dpt-recovery21.txt Let's get a city council who will take the lead on this rehab home problem. I have NEVER seen such inept politicians as our current council. Leslie, you go girl with the back 9 holes the airport wants. That is like apple pie and mom. But, since you were SO slick in this last election why not take the lead in kicking out the scientology rehab homes here on the peninsula. Mr. Henn could join you since it is his district (as if that means anything here)!!! Gene Ross It just goes to show you that having these rehab homes in Newport is not about the nobel cause of helping out people in need. Its about making a buck, at the expense of the neighbors. I think we should open up a rehab home next to Gene Ross's house on Lido, crame 49 people into it and see how he likes it. Gene Ross/Lido.... Pretty sickening isn't it? Gene Ross/Lido.,,er how much he gets each month for craming 49 people into a triplex? Triplex on the sand in Newport Beach with city-approved occupancy of 49! With 29 full time staff and only 3 off-street parking spaces! 1810 W. Oceanfront, Narconon, Inc. (Owners: Carolyn & Gene Ross of Lido Island) Immigration Bill The vote is Monday and a bad deal!! Mr. City Manager (Homer) How about fewer of your missles to the citizenry, as we KNOW what is going on! And, address this REAL problem which our ex city attorney is involved in! http://www.publicvoice.us/ Yep!! Crooked as can be on the face of things. And, Homer wants us to build him a new city hall. I DON'T THINK SO!!!!! Narconon = Scientology = Neighborhoods which are a mess. What is happening to our ex city attorney and his wife and their connection. Bob Rush (was that his name?) from Corona Del Mar had the guts to confront our current city attorney as well as Homer our City Manager. $$$ all under the table here! UGH!!!! Blogs that is ...... not the council ! ! Henn to the Rescue? Better than the rest!! no no 4th graders Grade School It's like trying to debate with 2nd graders who can't spell. Jack Wu Because you amuse us! Which Things Which did Marianne not write? She called Gil "Salty" in the Daily Pilot, she used tons of exclamation marks in the POP flyer, both traits used many times on this message board. "Salty" was even used to describe the people who were personally attacking me on this message board. Maybe there are many copiers of her style here, if so, then I apologize for mistaking the copycat styles. I've personally have heard her attack Tod and other in the Newport Beach establishment before , so that's not an accusation, and the GOP "Good Old Boys" and "insiders" came DIRECTLY from her Candidate Statement when she ran for State Assembly. Her comment of "want a woman to run for the office." came directly from her when she beat the lawsuit regarding that candidate statement. You must have missed the last sentence in the post where I WISHED MARIANNE LUCK. How is that a hatchet job? It's ironic that the post which you were soo upset at was one that wasn't "advertised" on here before the uproar. It was listed here after the first two "upset" comments. If you don't like what I write, or don't like Ron and Anna Winship (since they've also posted stuff), then why visit it? It is called Newport Beach Voices. Why the plural since we only hear one voice on the site! Discourage Jack? Is one to just sit here and remain silent when he does a hatchet job on Marianne? Accusing her of writing things she didn't? And, to make things clear here, I wrote them so I know whereof I speak. Jack Wu HOW does this encourage him? I don't know the man at all! What kind of "stuff" is he made of anyway? Jack Wu Get a life and stop reading his website and encouraging him. Jack Wu Well, he throws this "stuff" against the wall as if he is an inside guru. If nobody calls him on it then it falls on deaf ears and is accepted as fact. Strictly, and nothing but a rumor monger pure and simple. Get a life Jack and quit throwing this crap on your site! Jack Wu Looks like he touched a nerve. Jack Wu His partial hatchet job. Unbelievable! " I saw Marianne Zippi's name and then I remembered. First, I got sad again thinking of Former Assemblyman Ferguson's passing and then I got nervous for the future of POP. For those who are familiar with Freenewport.com have seen Marianne's many, many..."Salty" comments and her many exclamation marks!!!!! I have been victim of many of those attack/comments on that message board, but I wouldn't consider myself too special, since she has quite a track record for her comments in the past, whether they have been geared towards the Newport Beach establishment (Tod Ridgeway in particular) or the GOP "Good Old Boys" or "insiders" who don't "want a woman to run for the office." First, those of us are annonymous so HOW Jack can you lay so called quotes at the feet of Zippie? Then, presume that you know anyone writing herein. What a piece of work you are!!!! Hatchet Job Part II http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/05/money-well-spent.html Jack Wu Here's his site although I dislike giving him the time of day after his hatchet job earlier today! http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/05/pop-goes-zippi.html Traffic Poaching http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/05/pop-goes-zippi.html http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/05/something-to-believe-in.html Sloppy? I never claimed to be neat. What is the name.... of jack's web site again? I forgot it and wanted to look up that article you mention. thanks Hey jack!!!!!!! How's that for exclamation marks and they are not from who you said they were from in you blog. How dare you to paint someone with writing something they didn't write!!!!!!!! Someone on this site brought up her name numerous times and always in error. Now, I suspect that person may have been you! Pretty sloppy for someone who want to seek public office!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! End of story !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! City Hall Sounds to me like the council doesn't have the "ear of the community" on this matter. Not even close! City Hall BTW....50M is not a real estimate. Its more like150M++. But Newport is rich and we can afford to spend the tax dollars on things like city hall, employee raises and pensions. City Hall Oh sure they are squeezed in, but not like they squeeze them in the Rehabs. Just ask Burnham - he wrote the code!!!! City Hall costs US money, rehabs make THEM money. Its pretty simple, and pathetic. more city hall But but but....they (Homer!) say they are already squeezed. Hello ! ! ! ! ! ! Do we really need a 50 million dollar city hall ??????? City Hall If the City squeezed its employees into offices like the rehab homes squeeze convicted addicts into west newport duplexes we wouldn't need a new city hall. Dunes It has been considered but my office wouldn't have a view of the Pacific Ocean. Signed, Homer Bludau Rest in Peace Gil http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/05/rip-gil-ferguson.html Dunes Not kidding nor trying to sidetrack. I was just looking at a map when it dawned on me that this is the best possible location. Where better to tie in CdM/Newport Coast and old Newport Harbor? Its where the hills meet the bay. Great central location and traffic access. Sure I'd like to see the environment perserved, but the RVs and boat shows ruined that years ago. Has it ever been considered? City Hall at the Dunes? You've got to be kidding! Isn't this interesting now that we can see all these sidetracking issues come out of the woodwork to divert the public's attention from the "park" at the library? The Dunes ??? Where pray tell did this idea come from???? Unbelievable!!! How about that ! ! "More important stuff...." and there we have it. Hip hip hooray!!!! The citizenry will have our chance to speak. Let's see how significant those 4 votes on the city council were! We'll get the petitions signed and then let's see if we REALLY need a 50 million dollar taj majal .....Henn, Selich, Curry & Gardner now will get to see how far away they are from the soul of our fine city. Also, let us hope our city attorney will see this proposition gets the title it deserves and not one that she and Homer want which would be slanted like before. It's a wonderful day indeed! City Hall Why not put in at the Dunes! Has that ever been considered??? I'm always hearing about how developers want a hotel there, but environmentalists say no. If i look at it today with all the RVs and boat shows, its already been commericalized. So why not do it properly and put the City Hall there? Its about as central a location as possible, still has water/bay access, and we could save that park as open space/park land so greenlight folks win too. Win/Win. Initiative This!!!! http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/05/here-we-go.html More important stuff... Great column in Pilot last Friday why the "park" by the library is best place for any new city hall. However, a subsequent column or letter raised better questions as to whether we need a 50 million dollar new city hall..... Jack I appreciate the answers. I've never seen that dave ellis fud piece, nor recall any of this clearly addressed on this web in the past. So Ellis was hired to discredit you? Who hired him, Henn? Ridiculous It's spelled Ridiculous. Scared? ...and at least I don't hide behind anonymous comments. For the third time Yes, I lived in Irvine and ran for the Irvine City Council in 1998. Yes I was a registered Democrat back then. Next question? This was on the hit piece that Dave Ellis sent out three times against me in 2006, it's been documented many many times on this website. Happy? Silence I've already answered those questions TWICE before on this website. Why are you asking a third time? Look them up. Jack Wu What is his history with Dave Ellis? Now then, that is interesting!!!! This is rediculous Jack, step up and be a man about this! It is becoming pretty rediculous with your silence. If you're one raising the questions below shame shame shame.... Question You like rhetorical questions? Who got more votes in the 1st District 2006 (7745) race than another "local" candidate got in her 2002 1st District race (2649) and her 2004 State Assembly race (4495)? And he didn't have to spend time in the court room defending his candidate statement? Now that's funny. Dave Ellis Ask you buddy Dave Ellis about Jack Wu. He knows. Jack Wu? No ................................ Jack Who ................................... Jack It has been awfully quiet around here with nothing from Mr. Wu. Did he run for the Irvine city council or not? Pretty simple question it seems to me. But then I didn't start a blog site either.... Excellent point Jack did start the blog site so Jack what is it? Step up to the plate! 8 years Jack might run again in 8 years when Henn terms out right? Jack Is Jack running again? I thought that Michael Henn is the guy who beat him? Is Mike going somewhere? Jack Jack can earn my vote if he clarifies issues like this. I'm not trying to be advisarial. He started a blogging site. He is inviting the dialog. Well, did you run, or not run for an Irvine council seat. I happen to think that is relevant to his candidacy for a Newport council seat. He can earn my vote by addressing the issue. Jack... I'm someone else and I don't know did you run for another council seat? Also, is it true you were a Democrat? Why Are you asking Jack to be adversarial or do you really don't know? Barbara ....totally agree. Daigle is a waste of a seat. Jack did you really run for Irvine city council too? Barbara Venezia What a shame that Daigle now sits in front of the citizenry after the dirt she threw to chop Barbara's legs off at the knee caps!!! Barbara would have whipped her!! Jack... Here's your own quote: "And having a homophobic label for a police department in Newport Beach is the last thing that the Department, a City,...." Still a stretch! And... I'm not calling the PD homophobic, the lawsuit is claiming the PD is homophobic. I just said that label would be the last thing that they PD would want. What Part is Not Homophobic? Did you read the entire Daily Pilot article? Here's part of the article, "The suit, filed Friday in Orange County Superior Court by Neil Harvey, also alleges that he was harassed and was not promoted because he was single and colleagues thought he was gay." and "Harvey also alleged that Newport Beach Police Chief Bob McDonell, who will retire in June, questioned him repeatedly about his marital status. Department employees spread rumors about his sexual orientation and insulted him about it, with one telling him not to buy a house in Laguna Beach because of rumors that he was gay, according to the lawsuit." http://www.dailypilot.com/articles/2007/05/03/publicsafety/dpt-lawsuit03.txt Jack I think homophobic labeling toward our police department at this stage is a stretch. I mean really! Marina Park Anyone out there in tune with what is going on under the radar? Such as deals being cut by the current leaders of American Legion with city staff (and politicos)? It appears the Legion stands to lose some of their property and Billings doesn't know it!!! Yeah Jack Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Yes For the record...yes, some of you can call it as you see it, but who called this one, Jack is the "Hand picked candidate to replace Tod Ridgeway..." or my favorite, "Maybe 2 months ago or so I mentioned that an asian would be put up to "replace" Tod Ridgeway but didn't want to mention his name so early. Now it is out with Jack Wu being the handpicked replacement." My point is that you can sit on the sidelines and write a blog or two, but until one steps up from the "outside" to run for office, the "insiders" are the ones who will keep making the policy. Getting on commissions helps, but as we have seen with the Intense Residency committee, the City Council, and staff, don't have to listen to, or even agree with, the recommendations. Yes, caring is one thing, but I got involved because you can care all you want, but until you get in the game, you can't change the score. Freenewport Jack, for the record, we were right about the Marina Park fiasco, Gary Proctor, many of the current City Hall issues, and we are probably right about this Burnham/re-hab home issue once all the facts bubble up. Where there is smoke there is often fire. Those who claim conspiracy theories are just a bunch of BS are probably the ones involved!!! Not everybody has the time, or the talent, or the desire to sit on a city council board. That doesn't mean they can't still care about their city, care about how their tax dollars are spent, or write a blog or two. Then... Then you need to run for city council to break that cycle of "corruption" and put your money where your mouth is. Hopefully Heffernan will run again to start it, but he can't be the only one up there. HUH?? Jack, just saw this from your blog "Anyway, I'm sure something exciting (other than the perennial Corruption charges that are being levied but some of the Freenewport.com message board users) will pop up soon...as we head into the Political Summer Doldrums..." Perennial Corruption Charges...? Were you going to make this a more open council had you won? I hadn't heard that from you prior to the election. That's why we need some council members with guts to sit there and not "go with the flow"!!! Truth... Haven't a clue who you are but you have obviously done your homework! Collectively we do appreciate the TRUTH in an unemotional manner such as you've laid it out. Now, to get some of these truths into the hands of the current city council. With Hef and Nichols gone who will persue this? Truth Newport Beach has had troubles: 1) city councilman Gary Proctor didn't live in Newport Beach and was forced to resign 2) a 10 acrea city park on the bay was nearly gifted to a developer, Steven Sutherland, so he could build a time share resort hotel and profit $25-30 Million -until the voters decided that gift was a little excessive and preferred a park. 3) city attorney Bob Burnham received income from a drug rehab biz through his wife while hiring Rutan & Tucker to advise the city on a new drug rehab ordinance, the same law firm who advised the city of Irvine who got a totally different ordinance. Newport's ordinance allowing drug rehab's to not double, triple, or quadruple in size, but five-fold, from 5 to 25 in 2 yrs. Question: What was the referral fee paid by drug rehabs for a patient the Burnhams's referred? How much did that contract with California Strategies, who also sat on the Burnham's advisory board, donate to the Burnham's drug rehab biz? How much did city councilmen, fellow city employees and close associates of Burnham donate to his drug rehab foundation and or for profit biz? This should be on form 501(c), if it was contributed to the non profit foundation. 4) Any citizen who suffered a financial reversal due to drug rehabs entering their residential area in the past 3 yrs could theoretically sue the city since a conflict of interest was evident and nothing was done to prevent the over concentration of drug rehabs. Two minutes.... This is getting rediculous! Two Minutes Its a fine line between "corruption" and "influence". The Polititians know how to walk it best, with tax payer money of course. You get two Minutes... Am I anonymous genius? NOW WAIT A MINUTE JACK! "I'm not the one making anonymous charges of corruption." How do you square this comment with the earlier one that you had to be crooked (or words to tha effect!) to be a politician. You're not making too much sense here! But... I'm not the one making anonymous charges of corruption. Way to go Heff! (we're still here) I believe you Did you file your complaint????? No Life... Ok, instead of complaining about it, do like Heff did and file a complaint with the FPPC. 866-275-3772 or www.fppc.ca.gov and have them investigate. The more complaints they get, the more they react, and believe me, they love nothing more than to expose corrupt politicians and public officials. Let's get a life! "Anyway...it's been refreshing to think of something OTHER than City Hall, Sober Living Homes, and American Idol (Sanjaya)." Jack, why not persue and stick to "Corruption at the local level" noted just below this. It may be refreshing but the citizens of this community are sick and tired of the corruption going on under the radar. So, refreshing to you but not to most of us. Anyway, what does American Idol have to do with anything? HUH?? Disgusting!! Corruption at the local level What you're missing is that this is an old issue from years ago when former city attorney Bob Burnham manipulated the city, possibly for financial gain, by ridding the old Condition Use Permit requirement (C.U.P.) and replacing it with an experimental Federal Exemption Permit (F.E.P.) law he "invented". All while his wife was receiving a salary from a drug rehab business, running side-by-side with another drug rehab foundation, not sure if one channeled money to the other. We learned at city council meeting this week Mr. Burnham signed and initiated a non city council approved contract for nearly $1 M with Gary Hunt of California Strategies, then California Strategies sat on the advisory board of the Burnham's Drug Rehab Foundation. Mr. Burnham solictied grant funds from the city of Santa Ana and the city of Orange, during business hours on city time while city attorney and used city of newport beach stationery and faxes to run his rehab business. Yet he sees no conflict. At the same time he or the city manager emails Dr. Orosco that doubling occupancy at the 1810 Ocean Front address for Narconon is not an over intensification of the use permit. Flat out lying to the residents while profiting financially. The Fair Political Practices Commission will investigate the matter. Tod Tod Ridgeway recently put his house on the peninsla on the market. Think he'll miss us? Wrong! http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/04/paper-tiger.html It did do something! I think I'll now rent out my "under 6" people to sober living so my income will not be impaired. Thanks, City Atty and City Council. This is TRULY representative government in its finest form. And, just think, I didn't have to donate a penny to their campaigns to get this. Good work folks. Too bad "Walking Don" wasn't present so his vote could have been added also. Tod, we miss ya...... Huh? http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/04/paper-tiger.html No question about it now. Debra did have a conflict of interest.....BIG TIME!!! Thanks for shedding the light of day on this Mr. Heffernan!! You are not kidding! Sober by the Sea REALLY reached last night at the council meeting. Now then, back to the matter of City Hall. Let's get it over by the library where the so-called park is to be. Dumb dumb dumb to have a passive park in such a rediculous area!! End of story.... Drug Rehabs Sober Living by the Sea is really REACHING when they defend their businesses aren't causing a disturbance or property values to fall. What a joke. Do you think there will be any claims from real estate sells against the city for allowing the proliferation of group homes when there was a conflict of interest by the city attorney at the time? Amazingly careless of the 2004 city council. LET'S HAVE THE VOTE!!! http://www.dailypilot.com/articles/2007/04/23/politics/dpt-pollandscape19.txt Why? Why "Union Thugs" when there is SO much more going on at city hall..... Pay me http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/04/union-thugs.html Hef When this matter came up concerning Debra Allen I thought it a stretch to make it a conflict of intrest. Yet, one just had a feeling when the council voted on the issue the last time something was bubbling beneath the surface. I think Hef feels today he can do more good outside the council than on it. This is the 2nd issue he's brought now before the city. Last time he appeared you'll recall he was VERY concerned with costs to city employee benefits. Hef is to be commended to bring just a trickle of light to the goings on within the walls of city hall!! LET'S HEAR IT FOR HEFFERNAN! YOU GO JOHN!!!! http://www.dailypilot.com/articles/2007/04/20/politics/dpt-park20.txt One way to get to the bottom of things with what is rotten in City Hall end of story! Jack "now that this golf course might get Airport usage, I get nervous. I don't know if I'm reaching...." Well, I do think you are reaching somewhat. I still think we must keep our eye on the ball with this current city attorney. Now that it has seen the light of day with HER conflict of interest vis a vis the ex-city attorney. For her to make a call to the prior city attorney when our citizen was OBVIOUSLY alerting her to a possible criminal act is beyond the pale! So, as important as the 9 holes are (and they are!) I think the citizenery is REALLY worked up over our current city attorney and her act! Minature Golf http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/04/paved-paradise-to-put-up-parking-lot.html Our current City Attorney Why doesn't someone insist she come clean concerning her call to Burnham? I feel strongly that she has a hidden agenda with her uncalled for notification to Burnham regarding the Rush episode. What a conflict! It is sickening for sure!! Totally concur Brings this appointment matter again to the front burner. Appointees Good article Jack. This appointee game is the real crime being committed here. We want to vote! Next time, and assume it will come sooner rather than later, we do NOT want the council to annoint, er, I mean appoint to fill a vacancy. BUT, Homer & Co. will not see to it for sure! It is simply appoint, appoint, appoint and appoint. Somethimes I think we should change the name of our fine city to City of Homer & Co! Appoint This http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/04/vote-on-this.html I concur.... Throw the bums out and let's start clean. Was it Lynwood in this mornings news that 7 former and present council persons have been indicted? Let's start over!! Clean House Clean up city hall -fire all the attorneys and start a new shop in the city attorney's office and anyone connected to this obvious conflict of interest. Moratorium on group homes and moratorium on corrupt government. Double Standard below The current city attorney exhibits numerous double standards. The one mentioned below as well as the fact when a conflict of interest was recently brought up regarding the Debra Allen Park the city attorney called for the FPPC for information so as to interpet their "law" and informed the city council based on that telephone call. Yet when another conflict arises, one of her former boss and current city subcontractor, Bob Burnham, she refers residents to callt he FPPC themselves. Why? Is she afraid of Bob Burnham? Direct Link Here's a direct link to the OC Register article about the huge residential project by the JWA - http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/homepage/abox/article_1649938.php Please take note of the fifth paragraph. No Accusations I'm stating fact, from public records, and am stating my concern. And if you read my post and then read the meeting minutes, there names are there. On the lawyer thing, remember that the City Attorney asked for more funds, partially because of the lawsuit against Irvine and their lack of environmental analysis on the huge IBC project. Now that the IBC project has been green lit, and Irvine still hasn't done an environmental study, it is highly likely that legal action may be taken by Newport, Tustin, and every other group who was previously upset. Addressed to "Gee" You still haven't explained the "Lawyer" item! No one expects you to be an investigative reporter. How absurd! You're the one making the accusations and not naming names!! Where is the outcry???? Our city resident from Corona Del Mar comes before the city council last Tuesday night. He asks for their help in ascertaining what took place in possible conflict of interest with Group Homes relative to prior city attorney Burnham. Immediately dismissed by the current city attorney and advised to go to the FPPC (Fair Political Practices Commission). BUT WAIT A MINUTE, didn't Bob Rush tell us when he brought this up to City Attorney Robin Clauson she immediately called the ex-City Attorney Burnham and inform him of Bob Rush call? Ms. Robin is this a double standard you have here as an employee of our city? Gee Didn't think you'd miss me. Sorry, some of us have to work for a living...Anyway which one are you guys confused about? The lawyer one? Did you read the OC Register article about the HUGE development coming in at the Irvine Business Center? Remember that the City of Newport sued last year because of the traffic ramifications such a huge project will have on Newport's streets and that the Environment review had been done years and years ago. As far as the Conflict one, please remember that while I've been called many things on this message board, one thing that I'm not is an investigative reporter and I try my best not to do personal attacks. I've posted the links to the public records. All you need to do is read to see what recused themselves from discussion to find out who I'm talking about and to see who represented who. Easy. I can't do all your homework for you... HELLO ! ! ! Jack, what say???? WHERE'S MY LAWYER? HUH???? WHAT'S THAT ALL ABOUT?? http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/ Jack Now is the time to do something positive with your column. Not just a love fest so you feel good explaining to us your observations to us in general terms. Conflict uncovered? Well, if that is true I think Jack Wu could go a long way in the revelation of "stuff" under the surface. Come on Jack write a column naming names. We want the light of day on our government!!!! frustrated-no relieved-yes frustrated-no relieved-yes Conflict Uncovered Burnham's wife's drug rehab biz income will be revealed. City contracts and financial transactions will also be revealed. Stay tuned, this is better than reality t.v. huh? what? Jack Jack -So who do you think is the writer of this question -a former city council candidate? Wrong. frustrated-no relieved-yes Jack Your article of today 4/11 is revealing as hell. You alude to all of these under the surface issues which you knew about and supposedly we should all be so "aware". Why not name names so we know what the hell you know? To think you ran for city council with this knowledge and then admit that only "crooks" are in politics makes one really wonder what makes you tick. This article is but a bunch of mumbo jumbo: http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/04/conflict-what-conflict.html from a frustrated person who didn't make it to a select crooked councilman. Conflict Did former city attorney Bob Burnham work on anything while acting city attorney for the city of newport beach which brought monies to his wife's drug rehab foundation? Or to another person or entity who brought it to her foundation? What Conflict? http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/04/conflict-what-conflict.html City Newport Beach Things are really starting to have an aroma around City Hall don't they? Doesn't look good at all for past and some current city council people. Further on Group Homes It was Tod Ridgeway, as mayor, who signed the new 2004 ordinance. Let's get to the bottom of prior City Attorney Burnham and his wife and their involvement with ghe Group Homes! "Group Homes" It is now 1 hour and 20 minutes into the city council meeting tonight. Don't know the fellows name but he blew the lid off the conflict of interest within this city. Especially in 2004 our prior city attorney and his involvement. The citizen was referred to the State Fair Practices Committee which is fine but he came before council for their help. There is REALLY something "rotten in Denmark" now it seems!!! HIYA Im Phil Arrssssssssstt hic mumble mumble hic hic hic mumble mumble hic Citizen of the Year http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/04/hart-line.html Don't miss tonight's council Discussion relative to city hall location should be interesting. Homer did one on us didn't he. Notice we (or the council) don't decide any long IF we need the new building but where. Homer you did us in again! Keep on Voting http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/04/take-it-to-people.html When one goes inside City Hall Do you notice how busy everyone is? I mean 8 to 4 (or whatever) doesn't give one much time to get ALL his/her work done in that time if they just loafed around now would they? You go Homer you do good work on their (oops our) behalf! Benefits.. You bet and better than private industry that's for sure. Went to your site below and here's what came up: "The system cannot find the file specified." I'm SO happy for our city employees that they have the SECURITY and income and benefits. And, as you mention they will be REALLY happy with a BRAND NEW city hall so they are no longer cramped in their present quarters. Homer you do good work in taking care of our public servants er, sorry they are employees just like industry I guess. Don't forget to show up for work Monday morning you all and remember the vacation days you've accumulated not to mention the Holidaze and all that good stuff. ZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Benefits... How about the life time pension benefits! What a great place to work. good salaries, full pension, holidays, job security, etc. I think our city is really good at taking care its employees. Now they just need a new city hall. http://www.city.newport-beach.ca.us/HRM/Benefit%20Summaries/K&M.pdf City Attorney? I think it is time for a new one. While we are at it why not a new City Manager? How long did he make his current contract to run? What happened to the ol' reference to "public servant"? These people are so far out there above private industry it isn't funny!! I do not feel our current city council members have the backbone to raise ANY of the aforementioned questions! We have the City Attorney and she has 2 assistants. How many Assistant City Managers does Homer have? Last time I counted it was at least 2 .... or is it 3 .... or, maybe 4. Aw come on Jack it's only our money as tax payers!!! City of Newport Beach, Esq. http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/04/she-works-hard-for-money.html Leslie We've got many wasted council seats there. Leslie Married? I don't care. What I just realized is how Tod put her on council, for her vote. Threw her a few soft balls just to try and make her look good. Then she ran against a real candidate and had to resort to dirty politics to win. Now she does nothing on council except position herself for futher political gain. What a waste of a council seat. Thanks Tod! Leslie Daigle? Is she married? Does anyone out there know much about her? I know she's using the position as a stepping stone but other than Tod giving her the nod don't know too much. She has to be bad because Jack says they're all bad in public office. Jack speaks the truth "Good people don't win politics"....now that is a true statement! Oh, our dear city council. How good is Leslie Daigle? Just using city council as a stepping stone to futher her political career? All on the tax payer's nickel. Wrong? First off, I'm a realist. Second, you seem to forget that I was the target of $25k plus of hit pieces against me, which were full of half truths and lies. That he lied about me to the other Council members to keep me off a Commission. That he tried to "persuade" me to drop out the race. It wasn't until I had a chat with the City Attorney's office that it momentarily stopped. I'm not justifying his tactics. I'm just telling the truth. Barbara Venezia knew it. In order to win, you need people like David Ellis. You need to do whatever it takes to win and we weren't willing to do that. I don't do personal attacks, so I will not say if he is dirty or not. But until the voters believe what you and I believe, his type of political campaigning will continue, and judging by how much the presidential candidates have raised, it will continue. Do you think they are going to use that money to say nice things about each other? Good people don't win in politics. No Jack you've got it wrong! You want us to sit idly by and listen to you justify the Ellis of this world? What do you take us for anyway? The fact the guy is as dirty as he is does not make it right. Get it? Some of us have not bought into this political correctness thing as we are attempting to do better for our kids and grandkinds ... not what some blog pundit writes about and say his reference to "King Dave" was sarcasm! Get a grip and start writing about the goodness of folks in Newport Beach not the clever thugs who get elected the way they do with the money. Get it Jack? MONEY!!!!! King David Part Deux http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/04/king-david-ellis-of-orange-county-fair.html The Brewing Company Must have been too much booze flowing and making too much noise for neighbors in the parking lot. BREWING COMPANY I CAN'T STAND THIS CITY COUNCIL, JUST WATCHED WHAT THEY DID TO BEWING COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ellis I don't think the man is worthy of even sarcasm. Look at the harm he has done to Newport Beach. Example? He was Tod's campaign manager. Need we say more? He goes on and on. Just hope he stays up in the Fair Grounds. I suppose the next election he'll come out of his hole though .... again. King Its called sarcasm. You know...King of the World? David Ellis Isn't this the notorious one known for his dirty political "skills". His most recent was the smear he effected against Leslie Daigle's opponent last election. Someone should have told the Gov. before the appointment. Also, what's with this "King" title? He's a sleezeball pure and simple. No? David Ellis Fair? http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/03/king-david-ellis-of-orange-county-fair.html Thanks. Although I had to look up the word prose... Newportvoices I enjoy your style and prose. Keep up the good work. WNB Resident ...it was only one day Thank you for the momentary words of kindness and encouragement - http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/03/hot-for-teacher.html Jack? Well, guess he is not returning? Jack I've been one who has been somewhat "salty" in the past. However, I think after last nights council meeting you are to be commended with your 3 pieces today. ANYTHING in our fine town which gives "the light of day" on the council is surely welcomed. Homer has had a pretty free ride with Tod in control. Now, with Tod gone it will be interesting to see how all the egos up there sort things out. Pleas be VERY objective in your comments as they will be much more interesting.... jack no don't give up. i think newportbeachvoices is great. i am impressed with the effort. it will take time. freenewport is a bit salty and i think there is a portion of newport beach that will appreciate it. ok, you'll get a little vibe here and there but in the end what you are doing is very cool. good luck. Is this Better? Or should I give up? http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/03/be-heard.html http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/03/duh-really.html http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/03/city-council-meeting-update.html It's 9:33 p.m. And the council just now voted on the Brewing Company item. Think I'll go to bed and watch the rest of the council meeting there. However, will probabaly ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.... Jack I concur with the writer 2 down about your site. It is b o r i n g .................... This is a real free flowing site with many many hits and comments. I don't think you have had a single reply blog on yours. The council meeting is now starting and I just hope Debra doesn't show up asking for an apology from the Daily Pilot. Daigle That irritates me to see her use this council position just to further her own political career. First she gets appointed by Tod. Tod puts up a few soft balls to try and make her look smart. Tod is gone now and she does nothing. Her campaign manager goes on a dirty politics attack against a perfectly qualified candidate who actually cares about Newport Beach. What a waste of a council seat. Jack... If you want to poach traffic from this site to your's you need to come up with something more substantive than this. Really? Many of us care less about Debra! It is the City Hall that counts not a neighbor within 500' of the site!! Part 2 http://newportbeachvoices.blogspot.com/2007/03/debra-allens-home-address-part-2.html Daigle & David Ellis I wonder how many remember her dirty run for her office forcing a good woman out!!!! Garbage pure and simple! Daigle She's trying to raise her profile so she can run for Assembly when DeVore terms out, so all of her words and votes are going to be safe. Heff No I didn't see that. But lets change the topic, what's up with daigle? does she add any value to the council? Click Here to Continue Reading Our Message Board Archives! |
