Remember that business of him and his wife that that Burnham ran out of the City Attorney’s office while he was helping to change the Newport Beach Group Home laws to make Rehab proliferation easier throughout Newport Beach. It should be noted that monies contributed to their business went towards paying Burnham’s own wife’s salary, which he enjoyed as community property. The REAL question is he doing a good job as city manager? Remember, this council takes their lead from Homer. He is forever under the radar. Except in the matter of the tree removals on Main St. He was overheard telling Ridgeway he would start the sawing EARLY the next morning .... and he did! Many of us are NOT impressed with Homers leadership. For example, do we REALLY need a new City Hall? Where is the case for it other than photos showing employees in crowded quarters. Furthermore, I dug up the City NB 2007/2008 budget. As a city, we do about $200M in annual revenue. By far the largest contribution to revenue is property tax...ie the money we pay as tax payers on our homes to live here. That suggests to me the residents are in charge...ie we pay the majority of the bills. So I expect the City to honor our requests since we foot the bill. A 150M new city hall does not seem expensive, given that the city earns 200M per year. Just like a home for 1M might be say 5x the annual salary of someone earning 200k per year. Should homer earn 200K for running a 200M in revenue operation? That's probably not unreasonable as long as he's doing a good job and listening to those of us who are footing the bill!
