We decided to add this new "PRESS RELEASES" page in an attempt to minimize the misrepresentation of FreeNewport!.  Although we welcome the coverage, we want to ensure that we project the correct image of FreeNewport! to both our supporters and reporters...

NEWPORT BEACH (August 13, 10:00 a.m., PST) --  FreeNewport! is disappointed but not surprised by our city's latest attack on freenewport.com.

Yesterday, Daniel Trimble, acting in his official capacity as the Program Administrator for the City of Newport Beach, sent a letter to the Balboa Merchants and Owners Association, BMOA, condemning one of it's member organizations, talesofbalboa.com, for linking freenewport.com.  It should be noted that BID, is an acronym for the Business Improvement District, which provides funding to BMOA.

In his letter, Dan went on to state that, "It is Jim's choice which links are on his site, but it also the choice of the BID who they link with and those links and sites should be consistent with the BIDs mission."

Dan seems to be stating here that it is Jim's choice to link freenewport.com, but it is also their choice to link talesofbalboa.com, effectively implying that perhaps they could retaliate against " Tales of Balboa" for linking freenewport.com.

"Ironically enough, through his actions, Dan has exemplified exactly what we're fighting against, restriction of our freedoms - this time the freedom of the press and the freedom of free speech," Bryan Clarkson, at the Newport Beach City Council meeting, August 12, 2003.

"That is a statement that he or any other city employee can stand by," City Manager Homer Bludau, at the Newport Beach City Council meeting, August 12, 2003.

NEWPORT BEACH (May 20, 8:00 a.m., PST) --  FreeNewport! is pleased to announce the possibility of a "West Newport Town Hall Meeting", possibly on Wednesday, June 18th.  FreeNewport! Spokesman, Bryan Clarkson, met with Bob Burnham, City Attorney, today to discuss the possibilities.

"At a minimum, we would like to see our city council representatives, Gary Proctor and Tod Ridgeway, as well as Chief McDonell," said FreeNewport! Spokesman, Bryan Clarkson.  "We are encouraged by our initial discussions with Bob Burnham.  This would be a great opportunity for our city council representatives and police chief to listen to the concerns of their West Newport constituents, and to clarify their positions."

The agenda of any such meeting will include the new "4th of July Ordinance", and will also likely include the enforcement procedures of the Newport Beach Police.  The location is yet to be determined, and the June 18th date needs to be finalized.

NEWPORT BEACH (May 19, 9:00 a.m., PST) --  After reviewing the results of their '4th of July Survey', as provided to FreeNewport! by Bob Burnham, City Attorney, we are unable to verify statements made by our West Newport Representative - Gary Proctor.

During last Tuesday's meeting and subsequent 4th of July ordinance approval, Gary Proctor stated many times that the majority respondents (up to 80 or 90%) supported considerably tougher measures than those that were approved by our city council.  The data that we've seen simply does not support these statements.

"It's bad enough that he does not represent us, but to misinform us as well is unacceptable,"  FreeNewport! Spokesman, Bryan Clarkson.

We regret that this report was not provided to us before the meeting.  We welcome any additional data that the city could provide to support these statements.

A copy of their results as well as clips of Gary Proctors's quotes are available on our website at www.freenewport.com.

NEWPORT BEACH (May 14, 8:00 a.m., PST) --  Although we are disappointed by the decision of our city council in favor of the new 4th of July ordinance, we are not surprised.  The fact that they unanimously approved the ordinance against the wishes of their residents, proves that they are indeed out of touch with the residents of West Newport.

We are encouraged however, by the large turnout of residents opposed to the law, and plan on continuing our mission of informing, educating, and motivating our West Newport neighbors.
