Dick Nichols - UNCENSORED!

On Sunday, June 8th, FreeNewport! partnered up with Ron Winship, Cutting Edge, had the exclusive opportunity to interview Councilman Richard "Dick" Nichols at his home in Corona Del Mar.

As you probably know, Dick has been ostracized by some of his fellow councilmen over a comment that he made as a visitor at a recent city planning meeting.  After the committee denied a homeowner request, Dick stated, "It sounds like you guys are taking money on this one."  Needless to say, that didn't set well with the rank and file on our city council.

So, Dick took the time to talk to the one forum that he knew he could count on for free speech - FreeNewport.com!  We discussed a whole range of topics, from the upcoming "Nichols Ordinance", the 4th of July, and the established city council slate.

For ease of viewing, we condensed the interview into eleven clips. Simply click on the segment to view Dick's answers in Windows Media Player.

  1. Dick restates his formal apology.
  2. Dick explains that his comment could not have suggested that the planning commission took a bribe.
  3. What does Dick expect the city council will do to him?
  4. Is there any Greenlight resentment?
  5. The city council "developer slate".
  6. Does developer funding influence the "developer slate".
  7. What is the "city agenda"?
  8. Where do you go from here? / Secret government.
  9. Would you do it again?
  10. Dick explains his support for the 4th of July alcohol restrictions.
  11. Where does Gary Proctor live?
For the record, we at FreeNewport! support Dick Nichols on this issue.  Not only are we consummate supporters of free speech, but we firmly believe that developer money has too much influence in this town (check out our "Follow The Money" page).  We demand to have a government for the people, not for the developers.
